2019 Medical Device Innovation Challenge - Application Open

January 1 - May 31, 2019

The CNY Biotech Accelerator (CNYBAC) 2019 Medical Device Innovation Challenge (MDIC) will accept applications January 1 through May 31, 2019.  The 2019 MDIC Program start date for selected participants is August 1.

This is a highly competitive program which selects up to 5 medical device early stage innovation teams into the 6-month program.  You may participate virtually or on site.  On site selected participants receive free work space in the Creation Garage as well as access to a Stratasys 3D printer, spools, hardware and software equipment and supplies.  The mainstay of the program is the targeted intensive mentorship provided to all teams.  A Milestone Plan is set initially and updated throughout the program where mentors provide expertise and resource suggestions.  The MDIC program is synchronized with Syracuse University and Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario) student engineering capstone programs such that interested MDIC teams may apply to these programs to help design and develop their early stage innovation.  CNYBAC staff assist in coordinating monthly Mentor Meetings, seeking out targeted funding and partner opportunities and share out partner events.  CNYBAC contracts with the Innovation Law Center at Syracuse University College of Law to provide selected MDIC participant teams with student-supported prior art searches, competitive landscapes, patent education and commercialization planning.  Additionally, MDIC selected teams receive one-on-one pitch session instruction and participates in a Pitch Program held in December.

MDIC teams also receive fee-waived registrations to the following events held in the Fall:
Syracuse Innovation Connectors Funding Roadmap
Concept to Commercialization Bootcamp
NEXT Innovation Conference

Applications are available online at:  https://www.cnybac.com/medical-device-innovation-challenge-in-the-national-grid-creation-garage/

Applications will not be accepted after May 31.  The MDIC Review Committee will select applicants for interviews following which they will select the teams for the 2019 program.  Selected teams are notified in early July.
