Senator John Mannion visits CNY Biotech Accelerator (CNYBAC) December 29 to view newly rehabilitated space in response to COVID-19 testing being performed by Upstate Department of Pathology. Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Kristen Anderson, discussed the availability and need to fill med tech jobs and promote available curriculum and certification programs to high school students. She also noted streamlined NYS requirements have worked well during COVID-19 to enact change quickly and this should continue in order to meet hiring needs. Senator Mannion, previously a science teacher, is well positioned to understand the opportunities. Additionally, Executive Director, Kathi Durdon, provided a tour of the wet labs at CNYBAC occupied by startup companies commercializing biotechnology innovation, many of whom have received grants and investment funding, provide student internships and hire new employees. Ms. Durdon noted that they could utilize an additional building as all wet labs are currently full and many of their startup companies are seeking manufacturing, distribution and expansion space.
Thank you Senator Mannion for your time and interest in visiting our facility!
